Tradewinds' Highly Qualified Gifted Program

We are very fortunate at Tradewinds Middle to have a rigorous Gifted Program that prepares students to meet the high academic expectations of advanced study in high school and college. Since opening in 2004, our program has nearly doubled in size.

This program consistently challenges students beyond the scope of the basic curriculum.  The curriculum is differentiated in a variety of ways including: acceleration of instruction; degree of complexity; depth of study; advanced content; and variety of products and process.  There is also an emphasis on creativity, innovative strategies, and projects.

Eligibility criteria for gifted education include: the need for a special program; superior intellectual development and demonstrating a majority of the characteristics of a gifted learner.

Please contact Linda Serkez ESE Contact at 493-6418 with any questions you might have.

Tradewinds Middle School has a full-time, full-service gifted program.
All gifted courses are taught by gifted-certified, dedicated instructors.
The administration at Tradewinds Middle School is very supportive of our gifted program.

Tradewinds Middle School has many great benefits for students who attend here, such as:

  • A competitive band program
  • A comprehensive sports program
  • National Junior Honor Society
  • Chess Club, SWAT, SADD, Math/Algebra Club

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS FOR PARENTS OF GIFTED STUDENTS

• There is no federal legislation that mandates gifted education in our public schools. The gifted population is one of the most under-served populations in American schools today.
• If you have a gifted child, you have the right to place your child in a full time gifted program if one is available.
• At present, nearly half of all gifted students nationwide are underachievers.
• Up to 20 percent of high school dropouts test in the gifted range.
