5. Marzano Through Time
Dr. Janis Andrews introduced Sandi Gero who in turn introduced Kathy Orloff and she presented information via a Powepoint regarding the Marzano system. Sandi Gero and Janis Andrews recognized Kathy Weigel for her involvement last year with this system since it was a huge undertake and it was all accomplished in one year. Discussion took place between Board Members and Staff regarding: relationship and differences between Marzano and VAM, need regular update to the Board, feedback from teachers not favorable, not an evaluation system, training to progress, end of year reliability by Principal, differentiated instruction begin day 1 and follow intensity of instructions, provide support to teachers and follow up. Mr. Gent asked Staff to follow up with research Ms. Brill read to Board Members during the meeting.

Chairman Shaw introduced Keith Oswald who presented a Powerpoint to the Board regarding Professional Development process which is scheduled to start in March 2013, support common core state instruction, make sure students are college/career ready, make sure teachers and schools are supported as they get teaching materials, professional development will be offered at all times. The Board Members discussed the following: getting parents involved, each classroom get books and Library has them too, building of classroom libraries, books can be taken home by children, digital device, invite Barnes and Noble to 1/16/13 Board Meeting for recognition and appreciation for their donation of over 23,000 books, cursive handwriting instruction part of the curriculum, book adoption, review during Legislative Joint Meeting.
