PL1 - Resolution requesting that the Florida Legislature approve a dedicated funding source to support Tri-Rail
Description
- The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) has tried unsuccessfully to obtain a dedicated funding source for Tri-Rail.
- Approximately 750 Palm Beach County students use Tri-Rail on a daily basis to get to and from school.
- The operation of Tri-Rail is an important transportation and economic service to the residents and visitors of the South Florida region.
- At a joint meeting with the School Board, Board of County Commissioners and League of Cities held on October 28, 2009 there was discussion on adopting resolutions supporting a dedicated funding source for Regional Transportation Authorities, specifically South Florida Regional Transportation Authority for the funding of Tri-Rail.
Recommendation
I recommend the School Board approve Resolution PL 09-01 requesting that the Florida Legislature pass legislation providing for a dedicated funding source for Regional Transportation Authorities, specifically the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority to support Tri-Rail.
