Nancy Kinard-Florida Mathematics Educator Of The Year
Nancy Kinard, Manager of K-12 Mathematics for the School District has been honored with the Kenneth P. Kidd Mathematics Educator of the Year Award by the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
A product of the Palm Beach County School System, Ms. Kinard began her career in education in Palm Beach County in 1982 where she taught mathematics at H.L. Watkins Middle School. She has also taught at Jupiter Middle School, Suncoast High School and Palm Beach Gardens High School. At the district level, she has been a mathematics resource teacher, Title 1 Specialist and the Secondary Mathematics Program Planner. She has been involved in mathematics education throughout the state having served as the President of the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics; participated on numerous Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) committees; served on the Florida Postsecondary Education Readiness Test committee as a reviewer; and was a Frameworks developer for the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for mathematics.
Ms. Kinard recently returned to the district from a leave of absence to work in Tallahassee for two years at the Test Development Center where she was in charge of the development of the Algebra 1 and Geometry End-of-Course Assessments for Florida.
The Kenneth P. Kidd Mathematics Educator of the Year Award was established in 1976 by the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The Award is designed to recognize an individual's outstanding contributions to mathematics education. As the 2011 recipient, Ms. Kinard is honored as an outstanding mathematics educator who has made a significant impact on mathematics education across the state of Florida.
