Agenda Item #14 Title National Community Education Day Description National Community Education Day has been observed since 1982. The Community Education concept represents an expanded role for public school resources and provides a mechanism to address both the present and potential educational needs of all community members by empowering students for lifelong learning with knowledge and skills needed at work, home, and in the community to compete in today's global society. The School District of Palm Beach County's Adult and Community Education programs support the Superintendent's initiative to enhance literacy, safety and the graduation rate by promoting the collaboration and involvement of families, community members, organizations, teachers, and students leading to a more meaningful experience for all. Recommendation I recommend the School Board of Palm Beach County proclaims Friday, December 12, 2008, COMMUNITY EDUCATION DAY and encourages everyone to acknowledge the efforts of community education programs to inspire, motivate, and accomplish a vision that connects communities for today and a better tomorrow.
