Attendance Boundary Recommendation for

Freedom Shores Elementary  

• This recommendation provides enrollment relief for Freedom Shores Elementary School.  This proposal is a positive effort toward optimal utilization at Freedom Shores and Rolling Green Elementary.  Utilization at Rolling Green Elementary will increase with implementation of this proposal.
• Freedom Shores Elementary currently has 20 modular units and 12 Type VI units on site to meet current program and Class Size Reduction (CSR) needs;  Rolling Green Elementary was recently modernized opening in  August 2007 with increased capacity.  Boundary Study FS-1 proposes shifting SACs 239 (part) and 249B from Freedom Shores Elementary to Rolling Green Elementary providing relief to Freedom Shores Elementary.
• A community input meeting was held on Monday October 27th, 2008 at Lantana Middle School.  Notification was provided to parents of students potentially affected by the changes as well as principals of schools included in the studies, and municipalities. Additional public input was gathered at scheduled ABC meetings and through faxes, letters, and e-mails.  Copies of public input correspondence are available for review in the Board Minutes Office.
• All three speakers at the Community Input Meeting of October 27^th expressed the desire to have their children remain at Freedom Shores because they are doing well there.  They  know their friends and the school staff and area. The speakers expressed concerns of safety and stated the neighborhood around Rolling Green was unsafe, the lack of after school child care programs on site at Rolling Green was also cited. 
• On October 30, 2008 the ABC voted 7-4 to recommend study FS-1 to the Superintendent.
