Agenda Item #38
AC3 - Interagency Agreement between the School Board of Palm Beach County and AlphaBEST Education, Inc.
AlphaBEST Education, Inc. has been awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant to expand middle school after school programming in four (4) Title I Palm Beach County Schools. This grant is awarded yearly for five (5) years.
The 21st CCLC initiative is an opportunity for students to enhance and reinforce academic lessons of the regular school day, while also allowing them to learn new skills and discover new opportunities after the regular school day has ended.
The program will provide a wide variety of creative, engaging, and educational programming designed to both support and extend the academic and personal enrichment of participating students and their families at Conniston Middle, Lake Shore Middle, Lantana Middle, and Osceola Creek Middle. The program will serve 240 "at-risk" students.
Program goals are to:
Staff for the 21st CCLC will be recruited from the current pool of teachers and staff already employed within the schools. These staff members will be highly qualified, trained, and experienced in working with the targeted student populations.
The Interagency Agreement with AlphaBEST will be effective retroactive to September 1, 2012. This action does not prejudice the School Board.
I recommend the School Board approve the Interagency Agreement between the School Board of Palm Beach County and AlphaBEST Education, Inc. effective September 1, 2012 to August 31, 2017, and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all related documents and contracts.
