Agenda Item #39
FS-2 Pahokee High School Project Modification
Modification to the overall Project includes the following:
During the overall Pahokee High School Remodel Project #1771-8427, the renovation project team became aware of a critical problem with structural steel columns supporting the two-story exterior covered walkway corridors constructed in 1986.
The steel columns are heavily corroded at top and bottom. The top connections are damaged by water intrusion from expansion joint leaks. The bottom connections were buried under concrete and some cases were found to be inadequately protected from oxidation/rust damage.
A piggyback Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) contract with Gilbane Building Company will be utilized to replace or repair the structural columns.
An increase of $400,000.00 is required for the overall Pahokee High School Remodel Project #1771-8427 to complete the essential structural repair.
Chronology of Events and Anticipated Schedule:
I recommend the School Board amend the overall Project (Pahokee High School Remodel, Project #1771-8427) originally approved in the 5 year Capital Plan to include structural repairs to existing columns at Pahokee High School including, but not limited to Building #1, #2, and #3, and approve an increase of $400,000.00 for the overall Pahokee High School Remodel Project #1771-8427 to complete the essential structural repair.
Kristin K. Garrison (firstname.lastname@example.org)
The financial impact is an increase of $400,000.00. The source of funds is Capital Contingency.
