Sharon Hartsell, Florida School Boards Association Facilitator, introduced herself and provided Board Members with an overview of what will be presented in today's session.

Ms. Hartsell reviewed a PowerPoint presentation and summarized the following topics regarding "Fight the Good Fight - Creating Harmonious Relationships:" Desired Outcomes; Assumptions; Ground Rules; Florida Sunshine Law; FSBA Governance Model; Vision; Structure; Accountability; Advocacy; Conflict; Pro's and Con's; Today's Challenge; Thomas Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument; Basic Aspects Handling Conflict; Five (5) Modes for Handling Conflict; Competing; Competing Skills; Overuse of Competing; Collaborating; Collaborating Skills; Overuse of Collaborating; Compromising; Compromising Skills; Overuse of Compromising; Avoiding; Avoiding Skills; Overuse of Avoiding; Accommodating; Accommodating Skills; Overuse of Accommodating; The Goal of Each Conflict Mode; The Red Flag Mechanism; Other Built-Ins to Utilize for Positive Conflict; and Myths About Conflict.

Board Members discussed the following: Sunshine Laws; aggressive press; levels of conflict; irrational bullying; and competing.  

Board Members and Mr. Gent participated in team building activities.     

Board Members were in consensus to schedule a Board Retreat at an off-site location with a facilitator.
