    Guidance Program Highlights

Grade 9 Grade 10     Grade 11     Grade 12

Each student will participate in a grade level seminar and other school and classroom activities
which will emphasize the following: 
Grade 9

Understanding graduation and grade level requirements.
Understanding how grade point and honor point averages are determined.
Knowing their assistant principal and guidance counselor.
Becoming familiar with college entrance requirements, the FL Bright Future
     Scholarship Program
Understanding the importance of a balanced program of academic, extracurricular
     activities and  community service.
Updating the student's Academic and Career Planner.
Knowing the services of the Guidance Counselors, Career Development Counselor
     and Occupational Specialist.
Knowing the steps involved in career planning.
Reviewing "Tips For Success In High School".

IMPORTANT CAREER PLANNING OPPORTUNITIES:

DUAL ENROLLMENT  Students in Grade 11 or 12 with an overall 3.0 GPA may apply to take classes

at Palm  Beach Community College and received high school and college credit. There is no cost to the student.

RESUME ASSISTANCEis available in the Career Center.  Resumes for job, college

or scholarship applications may enhance the student's opportunities for success.

Resume Assistance On-Line

NORTH TECH Offers programs in many technical and career related fields.  Students may

attend for a    half day session while in high school or as an adult.

COMMUNITY SERVICE  Students interested in community service should

contact Mr. Rowe. A reminder to all Florida Bright   Future Scholarship applicants (class of 1999)

that 75 hours are needed for eligibility.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID:

Financial Aid forms (FAFSA)are available in the Guidance Office .  The form
should becompleted as soon as possible and mailed after January 1, 1999. Use the following

Software programs and the Internet provide many scholarship listing. Other scholarships

COLLEGE/TECH NEWS:

Seniors interested in the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship[image]
should check the latestinformation on the scholarship using the web site or information available
in the Guidance Office.  In the Spring, students will indicate an interest in the scholarship by sending
their transcript to the program office.After graduation,  final transcripts will be sent to the state
to be evaluated. Students will be notified of their eligibility during the Summer.

Transcripts (a record of high school grades) and test scores need to be sent to each school,
when the student applies, at the end of the first semester, and at the end of the school year.

Juniors should be researching colleges, taking the P.S.A.T.  and taking college entrance tests.
It is important to visit colleges prior to making a selection

Information on Technical and Specialty Schools for post secondary training is available
in the Career Center.

Military recruiters are on campus each week. Sign up if interested or call the recuiter
directly.
