Creating a Data CD-ROM

Adapted from the novelette, Nerdism Made Easy  by Donald McBride

Note: Data and music CD-ROMs may be created or burned using the school HP CD-R/W drive located in the Technology Coordinator’s work area.  The following instructions are relevant only to this particular unit, but the concepts are valid for others.

TO CREATE A NEW DATA CD-ROM:

1.      Insert a new blank CD-R disc in Drive H: in the Dell tower.  This is the lower or darker of the two installed CD drives.

2.      Easy CD Creator” will automatically boot once the new, blank CD-ROM disc is sensed in the drive.

3.      Select the second option; “Create a Data CD for distribution to different types of computers”.

4.      Select NEXT for creation of a Data CD.

5.      From the Adaptec Easy CD Creator Wizard, which automatically boots, CTRL Click to select folders and/or files from “My Computer” that you wish to permanently archive to a CD-ROM.

6.      Click “Add Now” when you have completed your folder/file selections.

Hint: This process works far better when creating only a folder

or two at a time.

7.      Click NEXT again to Perform CD Test

8.      At Ready To Create CD, select Create CD Now

9.      Click FINISH

TO ADD FOLDERS/FILES TO A PREVIOUSLY CREATED DATA CD-R:

1.      Replace CD-ROM disc in progress into CD-R/W drive

2.      Drag another directory and/or file(s) to the root of the CD-ROM being created.

3.      Select File, Create CD

4.      At “Add new volume”?    Select YES.

5.      At “Test and Create”,      select YES

6.
