PALM BEACH CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL, Wellington, Florida - Home of the Broncos

letter from the principal

October 19, 2011

principal mondyDear Parents/Guardians:

The Florida Department of Education has released the 2010-2011 No Child Left behind School Public Accountability Report (NCLB SPAR). The report is available for viewing at the school. The NCLB SPAR includes information on state goals relating to Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), student performance, learning environment, school safety and environment, teachers and staff, adult literacy, and parental involvement. Copies of the NCLB SPAR will be made available upon request.

The School Advisory Council (SAC) designs a yearly plan for school improvement. Our focus continues to be on student achievement in the areas of reading improvement, FCAT readiness and improving the graduation rate. In FY2011, students achieved gains in both FCAT reading and FCAT math.

The School Advisory Council voted to use the School Improvement funds (Lottery dollars) for FCAT tutoring which supported our efforts towards increases in student achievement.

We were fortunate to have businesses and organizations in the community who donated money directly to our school to support educational programs. During the 2010-2011 school year, we received donations from Maroone Chevrolet, Chick-Fil-A and Herff Jones.

The School has a very dedicated faculty and staff whose goal it is to provide the very best education possible for your child (ren). If you have ideas and suggestions, please attend our School Advisory Council meetings and be a part of our team. We look forward to your input!

Sincerely,

B.E. Mondy Jr.
Principal

PBCHS 9/11 Commemorative

Palm Beach Central High School students, teachers, staff and administrators did a commemorative ceremony in observance to the 10 year anniversary of the attacks of September 11th, 2001.

Some of the activities that took place during the ceremony included Presentation of the Colors by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, an overview of the week’s theme: UNITED WE STAND: To remember, to Learn, to Live. Additionally, The Palm Beach Central Traditions choral ensemble and the Band performed.

The highlight of the program was speeches by two NYC first responders, Audrey Valentine and Mark Harris, who were part of the teams that assisted individuals the day of the attacks.

The event was recorded live and can be viewed online here.

TRAFFIC and STUDENT
DROP-OFF

Palm Beach Central High School is the second largest high school in the district with nearly 3,000 students. Amazingly, through the efforts of our dynamic faculty members and our supportive community, we have been able to keep a family and close community atmosphere, and perhaps the biggest disadvantage to our size is the traffic in the morning and afternoon. Many of our seniors have senior privilege 1st and 7th hour which helps reduce traffic, but we need your assistance. We request that you pull-up in front of the main office and band room to drop off students. Please do not drop off students in-front of or near the gymnasium. When this occurs, the net effect is that people drop off one car load at a time and this is extremely inefficient.

Secondly, we ask that you drop students off in approved locations and not in the middle of the street which creates an extremely dangerous situation for our students. Students should be using crosswalks and obeying traffic signals when crossing the street. Finally, we strive to be good neighbors with the surrounding housing developments. We ask you to be courteous of our neighborhoods joining our school. The use of housing development driveways and easements during arrival and dismissal is not allowed and is patrolled by the PBSO. Violators are subject to tickets.

Bus schedules will be posted online at: www.palmbeachschools.org/transportation
