FREE EKG's FOR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES

Miami Children’s Hospital and outpatient locations are reaching out to middle and high school athletes by offering free EKG screenings. Usually, there are no signs for sudden cardiac death (SCD), and a typical school or sports examination won’t detect a potentially dangerous heart condition. That’s why and electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) screening is so important. This simple heart test takes only a few minutes and can mean the difference between life and death. Getting an ECG screening is particularly important if your child has suffered any of these symptoms:

- Frequently feeling faint

- Feeling dizzy during or after exercise

- A racing heartbeat during or after exercise

- Chest pains of any kind.

The risk of SCD increases if someone else in the family has had a heart attack or arrhythmia. To schedule an appointment for the FREE EKG, please call the MCH Nicklaus Outpatient Center in Palm Beach Gardens or to learn more about this program, please call 561-799-1486.
