The Gove International Studies Dual Language Magnet Program is a high level program open to students who wish to acquire the ability to function in a multicultural society. The magnet program provides content area instruction in both English and Spanish. Using this approach, our students achieve high levels of literacy and academic performance in both languages.

The goal of our International Studies Dual Language Magnet is to create an environment that promotes equality and positive cross-cultural attitudes while students become bilingual and biliterate.

Our Dual Language Program has been fully implemented in all grades (K-6). Students in Kindergarten through second grade, with two units in third, one in fourth and one in fifth, participate in a 50/50 model; that is, students spend half of their instructional time with an English-speaking teacher and the other half with a Spanish-speaking teacher. Students not participating in the 50/50 model, receive 90 minutes of Spanish instruction daily. In sixth grade, Spanish is being taught through social studies; in addition, two units of Language Arts are also taught in Spanish.

Students are encouraged to continue Spanish language acquisition by applying to other Choice Programs within Palm Beach County School District.

The International Studies Dual Language Program was modeled after several successful schools across the nation such as Coral Way Elementary in Miami, Florida and Francis Scott Key Elementary School in Arlington, Virginia. Gove Elementary has become a model for other dual language schools in our county as well as at the state and national level.
